NHIN - Nationwide Health Information Network

This was my first project for the Federal Government and it was very interesting to see how a large public entity functions as compared with the private sector. The project itself was challenging from a technical and business perspective, it was also very exciting to be in the middle of a large healthcare effort. I was the lead architect (including security) for the NHIN. The NHIN was created to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare by streamlining how data can be securely shared between constituents.

Merlin - Migration to Microservices

Merlin was the code name for an ambitious effort to migrate a Property and Casualty legacy insurance system from 20 year old technology to a modern microservices architecture. This was being undertaken to support an expanded business initiative to rollout the system to P&C brokers and insurance companies across the United States.

I am trained as a computer engineer and have been designing and developing software using Agile methods for a long time. Assisting companies in their Agile journey has become a staple of my professional career. When I was asked to move a client’s large Business Intelligence department from a waterfall delivery model to Agile I didn’t realize the unique challenges we would face - one of the major challenges; they were in an offshore delivery model.
