Projects
Listed below are a few projects that represent some of the more challenging and therefore interesting problems I have worked on.
.NET Modernization Effort
The modernization effort for a healthcare claims aggregator application resulting in improved system performance, a well organized development team, and a more efficient use of resources.
Deal Turnaround and Vendor Management
A fortune 500 company was having significant performance issues with their off-shore outsourcing partner. To turn rescue the deal we had to guide the strategic aspects of the project while fully analyzing the intricate details of a very large contract set.
NHIN - Nationwide Health Information Network
This was my first project for the Federal Government and it was very interesting to see how a large public entity functions as compared with the private sector. The project itself was challenging from a technical and business perspective, it was also very exciting to be in the middle of a large healthcare effort. I was the lead architect (including security) for the NHIN. The NHIN was created to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare by streamlining how data can be securely shared between constituents.
Merlin - Migration to Microservices
Merlin was the code name for an ambitious effort to migrate a Property and Casualty legacy insurance system from 20 year old technology to a modern microservices architecture. This was being undertaken to support an expanded business initiative to rollout the system to P&C brokers and insurance companies across the United States.
Moving a BI Department to Agile Delivery
I am trained as a computer engineer and have been designing and developing software using Agile methods for a long time. Assisting companies in their Agile journey has become a staple of my professional career. When I was asked to move a client’s large Business Intelligence department from a waterfall delivery model to Agile I didn’t realize the unique challenges we would face - one of the major challenges; they were in an offshore delivery model.
